Fall 2009 Schedule of Physician Lectures
This fall, fellowship-trained orthopedists and sports medicine physicians from ONS at 6 Greenwich Office Park, will present a number of free lectures, open to the public in the Greenwich area. Topics to be covered range from “ways to stay out of the doctor’s office” to hip arthroscopy to ski injury prevention. The events are sponsored by the Education Initiative of the ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education, a non-profit organization devoted to helping reduce injury rates and support active healthy living through community educational programs. Many of the lectures are held in conjunction with Community Health at Greenwich Hospital, including the annual Joint Replacement Symposium to be held November 5 at Greenwich Library. ONS physicians are Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Board of Neurological Surgery or the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Doctors hold advanced degrees in their area of specialty. The ONS Foundation sponsors youth sports injury prevention seminars for local youth athletes throughout the year.

Tuesday, October 6: “Pain Management: How to stay out of the doctor’s office,” from 6:30 – 8 p.m. ONS Physiatrist Halina Snowball, MD will speak to the Chronic Pain Education Forum in the Greenwich Hospital Noble Conference Center on how to optimize quality of life through prevention and management of musculoskeletal pain using traditional and non-traditional methods including yoga and acupuncture. Thursday, October 15: Sports Medicine Doctors Discuss Shoulders and Hips at Greenwich Hospital, 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. – Shoulder Injuries: Prevention and Treatment. Sports medicine and shoulder specialist Katherine Vadasdi, MD discusses common shoulder injuries, the latest treatments for shoulder pain and stiffness, and minimally invasive techniques. From 7:15 – 8 p.m., Hip Arthroscopy: Is it just for A-Rod? Hear sports medicine and hip specialist Tim Greene, MD discuss the causes of hip conditions in athletes and non-athletes and how hip arthroscopy is used. Greenwich Hospital Noble Conference Center. Tuesday, November 3: ONS Annual Ski Seminar at 7 p.m. A seminar on ski and snowboard injury prevention by orthopedic and sports medicine physicians. Orthopedic surgeons Steven Hindman, MD, Tim Greene, MD and Paul Sethi, MD discuss causes of common skiing injuries and how they may be avoided. The Free seminar includes tips from doctors on safe skiing, and information on the latest treatments for common injuries such as a ruptured ACL. Also, a demonstration on ski conditioning and strengthening exercises by physical therapist Chalon Lefebvre, PT, LMT, CSCS of ONS. Thursday, November 12: “The Female Athlete: Preventing Sports Injuries in Girls”, 7- 8:30 p.m. Primary care sports medicine physician Gloria Cohen, MD and adolescent and adult sports medicine specialist Katherine Vadasdi, MD will discuss why girls have certain risks for potentially serious injuries. Open to girls, ages 11 to 19, parents, youth sports coaches and athletic trainers.
